Facebook, Twitter, MySpace, blogs, forums, guest books… All of these items are Web 2.0 and it’s all about social networking. The ability to interact with your visitors is an invaluable source when it comes to keyword discovery. When your visitors add their comments to your website, you have an instant source of keywords. What questions are they asking? What do they want further information? What do they think about other people’s statements?

The best product: Daily blogster. Pique your interest!

When it comes to building a website to sell a product, a service, information or even yourself, I think the most important thing is to listen to your visitors. Knowing what people want gives you a leg-up in any industry. Web 2.0 isn’t any one program; it’s more like a concept. I think a good way to define it would be the utilization of social networking tools to create one-on-one interaction.

Having a Web 2.0 profile is always a good start!

One of the easiest ways that I find to allow for visitors to interact with me is to link people to your social networking site. This is as simple as copying the URL of your profile and posting it on your website. This step begins with a visit to a social networking site and the build up of a profile. I find that it’s worthwhile to have an account set up with many Web 2.0 social networking sites. The philosophy behind this is that the more profiles you link to your website, the more eyes that will be viewing your content. You then want to invite them to make a contribution. This is how keyword discovery is accomplished.

The best way to create a bond with others is to be honest. When I create a profile, I like to add information about myself that may or may not be relevant to what I am trying to promote. This creates a good rapport with your visitors and makes them feel like they are important and that you aren’t just trying to sell them something.

Which social networking sites do you recommend?

There are several main social networking sites that you can try. Broadcaster.com is a website that offers video sharing and webcam chats that I think are great avenues for opening dialogues and letting people really get to know you. Another Web 2.0 site that is very popular is Facebook. With nearly 350 million regular visitors (and that number is ever growing), this is a source I highly recommend that you tap into. Flikr, MySpace, Twitter and Windows Live Spaces are also great sites to create a profile and establish your World Wide Web presence.

I also like blogs, forums, guest books, comment sections and other places where visitors can offer input and ask questions. There are several website hosts that offer this service and it is fairly easy to set up one of these Web 2.0 tools. As an example, Blogster.com is one site that makes for an easy way to set up a blog for you to keep your visitors up to date on what you are doing. You can then invite them to ask questions and offer comments that are usually loaded with keywords.

Once you have utilized Web 2.0 and your keyword discovery has produced some excellent results, you want to use those keywords to generate content. That content should be optimized to bring more visitors to your website and create an endless cycle of information.
